Against the Countryside Alliance

Countryside Anarchists | 16.09.2002 13:47

A protest against the Countryside Alliance has been organised for Parliament Square starting at 11am on sunday 22nd september. Take this number with you on the day 07946687192 as we maybe subject to police whims...;)

The Countryside Alliance are hoping a million turn up on September 22nd for their Land and Liberty march, they will be lucky to get 300,000 although with regular adverts in a lot of national newspapers it is hard to call. Hunting is the only reason why the Countryside Alliance exists, and its genesis can be traced with the struggle to criminalise foxhunting throughout the 1990's. Critics have long seen organised fox hunting as barbaric since the 19th century, and wondered why foxhunters are exempt from other cruelty to wildlife legislation.

The recent hearings on foxhunting have once again proved hunting is cruel and morally bad, but still hunters are not treated like cockfighters or dogfighters and are given a priviledged opportunity to save themselves. This is the suggested tribunals who would judge hunting activity on a local basis as a civil offence if Alun Michael (Government Minister for Rural affairs) gets his way. The Labour backbenchers may still be able to go for an outright ban though.

It is because the left and anarchists are so weak that they would dare to call the march to be about Liberty and Livlihood. They've never been interested in the jobs of other working people throughout the Thatcher years, and it's clear that they are not concerned with everybodies liberty as they OPPOSSED the right to roam legislation. The fact is that foxhunting continues to exist because a very small number of people own the vast majority of land in Britain, that they got by stealing off our ancestors. 189,000 families own 40 million acres or 88% of the land in Britain. 59 million live on 4.4 million acres. Hardly fair is it? Also these landowners get 4 billion pounds worth of subsidy each year as well! A hidden welfare system for the rich!

Traditional aristocracy are the mainstays in the hierarchy (official and unofficial) of the Countryside Alliance. Whether it is the moneygrabber Lord Mancroft or the Duke of Westminster. The Duke collected 3 millions pounds of subsidy from the EU's C.A.P. and was reported to have loaned the Alliance a million of it. As Britains richest man what the fuck is he receiving this welfare check for? Clearly to squander on his political hobbies! Prince Charles loaned out his home and has given his staff paid leave to attend the march. The Duke of Northumberland allowed his family mansion to be let out as a fundraiser for the Alliance to. In the North East of England Alliance press releases are being sent out from a manor house!

Whilst claiming to represent all the countryside the specialists in social exclusion who run the Alliance owed 40,000 pounds worth of Barclays shares. Then Barclays closed 170 rural banks down. Clearly the Alliance shouldn't be allowed to claim it is working in the interests of all the people in the countryside. Two of the Alliances commercial directors, Christopher Sporborg and Michael Hoare are bankers, and Nick Bannister is a stockbroker from London. Those who march with them at best are naive, or worse they are nazi scum as the BNP have told all their members to march with them. This is a right wing populist alliance on the march, and those who consider themselves to be anti fascist should be aware that a pure 'Nazi' movement is unlikely. Nazis are at their most dangerous with other rightwing types, and this is the type of movement that is a real threat to people. The early editions of Horse and Hound magazine could talk freely about the "niggers in Ceylon" (May 10th 1884) and there are similar backward racist ideas in a lot of isolated areas. Basically they are ideal traditional white Brits, heterosexual, beef eating, and conservative with a small 'c' even if they are progressive enough to vote Labour!

There are different groups orgainsing around the hunting issue. The Union of Country Sports workers was set up as a pro hunt front to try to give them legitimacy. The T & G Rural workers section was anti hunting you see.... The UCS have organised the blocking of parliament square and were active in the petrol dispute. The Countryside Action network have organised some motorway go slows and an illegal blocking of parliament square. This was enabled by the police, rather than attacked by them, as they have done anarchists on mayday and reclaim the streets events. The shadowy Real Countryside Alliance is using direct action to target Labour mp's and hunt saboteurs offices and homes, and have also graffitied the motorways. In one of the Toffs magazines "The Field" they have even threatened the multicultural urban workers when they said they would "pull the plug out of a reservoir in Wales and run Birmingham short of water". Even a Labour M.P. has passed the article to the Police and Home Secretary as a clear case of incitement, but don't expect any movement there...

We all know that an attack on one is as attack on all, so one day opposing them at parliament Square at 11am on September 22nd is not a lot to ask for the struggle against them is it? Take this number with you on the 22nd to use if you are not sure whats going on: 07946687192. There are some who theoretically say it's NOT a town V. Country issue. On paper this maybe correct, but if they have won the war of ideas and have turned the countryside against the town, what then? Surely it is right to approach the urban working class and motivate them against these trespasses on urban land, cos they don't want us in their green and pleasant land... Imagine a bus load of people from Hackney and Brixton enquiring about guns at a Countryside Game Fair? I think the village idiots would go even barmier!!
