PRESS RELEASE : BRISTOL-STOP-THE-WAR

PAUL MARSDEN (MP) BACKS SHUT DOWN OF BRISTOL

**********************************

Bristol-Stop-the-War has issued a call for the permanent shut-down of Bristol in the event of war against Iraq. This call for action now carries the explicit backing of Paul Marsden MP (Shrewsbury & Atcham)

"If Iraq is attacked while their remains no provocation from Saddam Hussein I will back your peaceful aim to close down Bristol. This mad, headlong rush into war appals me & I support the demands of MPs to recall Parliament before the official end of recess.
Whilst billions of dollars are spent on the military build up, 13 million people in Southern Africa face starvation. The US and Europe should be helping to feed the hungry of this world and not bombing the innocent. Good luck with the peaceful Stop the City campaign.
Together we can stop this war mongering and make world leaders face up to their responsibilities in helping developing nations and protecting our environment." Paul Marsden (MP)

CAMPAIGN TO STOP THE CITY OF BRISTOL
--------------------------------------------
On the evening following the outbreak of war with Iraq we call upon everyone to converge at the Bristol Peace Vigil. On May Day we proved we can stop this city. We will do so again if Iraq is attacked.
The preparations for war against Iraq intensify with each day that passes. George Bush & Tony Blair claim that this war is necessary because Iraq might possess weapons of mass
destruction.
The only certainty is that the U.S & U.K possess nuclear weapons, & that Depleted Uranium has been used against Iraq. Radioactive war is being waged in our name. Any attack on Iraq will further inflame the Middle east.
The conflicts in Palestine & Kashmir clearly mirror the war in Afghanistan. This is a lawless world order which sanctions the invasion of entire nations in response to lone terrorist attacks. This insanity must be stopped.
-------------------------------------------------
PEACE VIGIL : Mon-Fri 5.30-6.30 & Sat 3.00-4.00
(Bristol City Centre, St. Augustines Parade
Opposite The Hippodrome)
These times will be open-ended in the event of war

We need stop the city actions now!

05.09.2002 20:29

It is too late when the war starts to then stop the city! We need to start stop the city actions now to force Blair and Bush to back down from attacking Iraq. Once the war is started nothing will stop it! The time for action therefore is now not later!

There will be a mass anti-war demonstration in London on the 28th of this month September. That could also be a time for action as it goes to Hyde Park! So after that demonstartion how about we all go to nearby Oxford Street and shut it down with a mass blockade and hold banners across the street saying "DON'T ATTACK IRAQ" and chant loudly slogans like "don't attack Iraq" and "we don't want your fucking war!"

Missed The Point?

I accept your criticism, but the point of this campaigm is to deliver a pre-emptive warning to our Government not tobother invading in the first place.

The early indication's are of the largest demonstration in British history on the 28th. 100 coaches have already being filled in Birmingham.

Maybe we just won't go home on the 28th. I would advise people to bring a sleeping bag, food, & water.
