Community activist excluded from regeneration inititive

Mike Lane | 22.08.2002 09:46

Concerned NDC community activist is still excluded from an initiative that is meant to be inclusive.
Below is a recent email sent to the £57,000 per year chief executive of the Liverpool Kensington New Deal for Communities initiative.

I do hope that you are keeping fine. I am sending this email to inform you that I have, yet again, spoken with the New Deal for Communities contact at the DETR in London exclaiming how I am still being excluded from participation in the Kensington NDC initiative. I also told her how I was receiving absolutely no information on when meetings were being held or on how the NDC Partnership was evolving. I also mentioned my visit, with three other people, to speak with the council's internal auditors and how they informed us that the Kensington NDC's internal audits would not be made available to the NDC community. The subject of board meeting being closed to the community was also discussed. We also spoke about how my position of total exclusion was in reality an antithesis of what New Deal stood for and how the most difficult to reach people within the Kensington NDC community are beginning ignored in preference to what home owners want. We discussed the unfair situation of tenure and how the real disadvantaged, who live mostly in rented accommodation, like myself, are being discriminated against because they live in rented accommodation and how we are not really represented at board level because you and you colleagues think that we are migratory and as such are not entitled to be included at the level that homeowner are.

I also pointed out to her how democratic procedure was being blatantly ignored in preference to speed, especially in pushing through projects. I also pointed out and explained to her how you have blatantly ignored my 36 points for an open democratic community and how you have levelled scrupulous allegations against me in, what I view as, an obvious attempt to discredit me. The DETR contact has assured me that she will be getting in touch with Government Office in an attempt to arrange a meeting between them and myself so that we can discuss these serious issues in more depth.

MICKEY MOUSE training schemes

22.08.2002 11:01

we all know how them NEW DEAL initiatives work, government penpushers give their old grammar school mates £250000 funding to train needy members of society, usually the disabled or single mums. the money grabbing training organisation pockets most of the £250000, spending it on new cars, homes, holidays etc for its executives and managers, leaving about £2000 left to fund the training scheme, pay the crap so called tutors, who are only filling in, temporarity and havent a clue about the course/qualification, and buy, beg steal or borrow, training material and equipment for the trainees, with very little or no training allowance left over for the trainees. One such training organisation in Belfast is now being investigated for fraud.
