ISRAEL: Update on newly imprisoned refuseniks and conscientious objectors

War Resisters' International learned of four more refuseniks who were imprisoned last week.

Uri Ya'acobi (ISR12376), 18, from Jerusalem, was sentenced on 14 August to 14 days in military prison due to his conscientious objection to military service. Uri Ya'acobi is among the signatories of the letter of the 12th graders, a letter by 62 Israeli youths sent to Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, in which they announce their refusal to serve. Uri Ya'acobi is the fifth among the signatories of this letter to be imprisoned.
Uri Ya'acobi is imprisoned in Military Prison No 4. He is due out on 26 August, but is very likely to be imprisoned again afterwards.

Yuval Ron (ISR12377), a 25-year-old student from Tel Aviv, was sentenced to 28 days in prison on 13 August. He refuses to perform service in the Occupied Territories. He is due out on 6 September.

Yaniv Itzkovitsch (ISR12378), a 27-year-old student from Tel Aviv, was sentenced to 28 days on 13 October for refusing to serve in the Occupied Territories. He is due out on 6 September.
