Parents and children at St John's nursery in cnetral hackney will holda Festival of Resistance at he nursery on Saturday 31 August from 2pm. It will contest the closure of the nursery and focus opposiiotn ot the council's cuts policy.

St John's nursery offers care, fun and education for 45 children. The council wants to close it to "save" £190,000 from the Early Years budget. The Learning Trust, which took over education in Hackney on 1 August, has so far refused to reprieve the nursery. We have huge publc support for defending nursery education. Why is there so much cash for the privatisers who take over our services and fail the people of the boorugh but no money for vital services? We have lobbied, argued, marched and demonstrated. We are not gong away quietly. Resistance is urgent to highlight the closure and the fact that many parents have not even been ofered a reasonable alternative place for their child. Please offer help (music, food etc) for the festival and get in touch for details of other activities. The nursery is situated behind St John's church off Lower Clapton Road, near the police station!
