Squatted community centre open in Dalston, Hackney

The Edith Cavell building has been squatted as a community centre, and is open now. There will be an open meeting tomorrow (Thursday) at 7pm

The Edith Cavell building, a huge modern office building, has been squatted as a community centre, and is open now. There will be an open meeting tomorrow (Thursday) at 7pm to discuss how to use the building, and organise events.

At the moment we are using the back entrance. Open the pedestrian gate on Hertford Road, and walk straigt through the car park (do not turn right). Climb the steps up to the door by the budlia bush and press the doorbell.

Bring nice community centre type stuff, if you have it, or just be a nice community centre person.

Love,

Edith

The occupiers of the Edith Cavell centre have been served with court papers requesting an interim possesion order. This means that if we stick around till wednesday we can be arrested and prosecuted, which isn't my idea of fun.

Therefore, one of the biggest community centres ever opened in Hackney is also one opened for the least time. We're not going to open for four days, cause it's not worth it.

Apologies for picking our squat in an area designated as a nation state - it doesn't generallly help.
