cult preys on refugees

Many of us must at some time have met members of the "Jesus Christians" cult in the street, as they try to flog their loony homophobic comic books. Now it seems they're trying to make money out of the refugees. Haven't these people been through enough?

Get up to date reports from Dave and Ross as they struggle against an unjust system in an effort to provide whatever support they can to the inmates of the Woomera Refugee Detention Centre.

Refugee Wishes Ignored
by Mira Wroblewski
A little over a week ago, I visited a number of people inside Woomera Detention Centre. Among them were people who had expressly refused permission to Ross Parry and the McKay family for the use of their stories in the "Worst of Woomera" book and internet sites. They refused in writing-one of them three times. Despite this- their stories were used. They contain information which is extremely politically sensitive, and which puts them and their families back home in danger.
It's difficult to put into words the distress and fear I saw when they described how they felt when their wishes were ignored. One of them is a minor who came to Australia alone. He said that he would never trust anyone again-and his face told me that he meant it.
He gave me a copy of a letter (the third) which he sent to Ross Parry asking him not to circulate the book and to pull the information of the internet. Below is the text from this letter:
"Dear Mr Ross Parry,
You asked me friendly that I do sign your letter. But I can't do that because I have had personally respns? I didn't let you to use my story.
But unfortunately you used it. Also I heard that you put it in internet. You must not did do that. Because I didn't agrry with you.
In my last letter I wrote to you we need talk both together. But you didn't care about it. You could call to me or sending somebody to visit me.
It's made me upset and angry.I want you keep off it.And do must clean my story. I wrote for you I pay attention to everything that I do.
And I don't let anybody to useing that I do.
Mr Ross Parry it's good for you to do it very quickly (clean my story of internet) because you didn't respect me?
Best wishes for you.

Please respect the wishes of the detainees not to have their stories made public. They are easily identifiable in this book both by the names (which are very close to their real names) and by information such as ages, town of origin, religion (many are part of a minority religion in Iran), ages and gender of children etc...
This book should not be made public. For more information about this matter, the refugees' lawyer, Ms Abby Hamdan can be contacted. Anyone is welcome to contact me regarding the level of absolute distress this book has caused the people in it (0439 858 082)
Best wishes,
Mira Wroblewski
