"Messages of support for our 28 September demonstration against war on Iraq are flooding in," said a Stop the War Coalition spokesperson today. "The demonstration is now backed by UNISON, the country's largest trade union, and by campaigner Doreen Lawrence, among many other prominent individuals from all walks of life."

The demonstration on Saturday, 28 September will be held in central London and is being jointly organised by the Stop the War Coalition and the Muslim Association of Britain, and supported by CND. Its twin themes will be: 'Don't Attack Iraq' and 'Freedom for Palestine'.

"With anti-war voices from the religious communities and the entertainment industry joining MPs, trades unions, anti-racist and human rights activists, writers, artists and - most importantly - millions of ordinary people, the pressure is piling up on Tony Blair.

"The demonstration on 28th September - the eve of Labour Party conference - promises to be one of the biggest in modern British history. It will make clear the truth that is now emerging - that on this issue Tony Blair is isolated."
