Four federal marshalls and a few MPD officers came at a little before 9:00
this morning, August 7. They came to the door with shotguns drawn. The
marshals presented eviction papers, asked for residents' identification
and photographed the residents, including some rudely awakened and still
in their pajamas.
The officers refused to show a warrant, despite claiming to have one.
While bringing assorted furniture to the curb, The officers seized a box
of assorted materials, believed to contain computer disks, files, and
political materials. Some residents were allowed to go back in to retreive
belongings, but
not until after the marshalls had gone through the house, dumping
residents' personal papers into a heap. The first time residents came out,
they brought their bags. When residents were allowed to re-enter the
house, officers searched the residents bags.
Residents have been told that if they re-enter the house, they will be
charged with trespassing.
Many of the residents' belongings are still inside the house.
Everything that will be removed by the marshalls has been removed. As of
10:55AM, some residents' personal belongings, including personal papers
and mementos remain in the house, but the marshalls are now just waiting
to board up the rowhouse.
