So you REALLY want to stop the coming war...?

spikey | 05.08.2002 10:16

With the overwhelming majority of the UK population strongly opposed to an attack on Iraq, and increasingly fed up with Blair's sanctimonious drivel, militant direct action in opposition to the war could well be *very* popular

If Blair supports the coming war on Iraq *in any way* it needs to be made crystal clear that he will fall on his sword. Only the tactics of militant direct action (MDA) can hope to achieve this goal.

MDA, in the present political climate, could well be *very* popular and may, given the right circumstances, have a kind of 'detonator' effect.

Examples of MDA tactics used in the past to oppose war include: blockades, occupations, sabotage, riots, 'trashings' and strikes. All backed up with an unequivocal anti-war message.

This is *the* most widely opposed war on which the US has ever embarked and it could turn into a catastrophe for them as the opposition could become incendiary very quickly.

Ladies and gentlemen, sisters and brothers, the revolution may be about to begin.

Spikey, I'm with you went you say that there need to be more militant action against the forthcoming war, however any unprovoked violence would be counter productive, the resistance movement has a bad enough image as it is due the alleged actions of a few at events such as Genoa, May Day, and Seattle.

Having said that, we need to disrupt the normal pattern of like, because that is the only way the people will listen to us. As you say, it's another step closer to the long overdue revolution...

Make Peace Not War, if that fails...Make War!

The first stage of our resistance will come on the 28th of September with the mass show of strength in London. It is important that this is as peaceful as possible to emphasise that we want to to see the end of all war and violence. If this strategy fails then we fight fire with fire, and this time we will prevail.

in solidarity.

First step is too late...

Mike, 28th September is way too late for a 'first step' given the possibility of attack in October!
Personally, I think we will lose public sympathy very rapidly if there is any violence (meaning physical assault on persons - 'fighting for peace' sounds like 'War On Terror' doublespeak to me!).
However, I'm in full support of confrontational tactics in the current situation. Thoughtful, timely, effective actions might encourage many who would otherwise remain silently complicit to make their voices heard.
Anyone aware of anything like this currently organised? We have VERY little time. Once forces have assembled in the middle east, I can't imagine Bush / Blair will back out.
Peace!

These guys are not for real

Agent provocateurs really should work a bit harder on the tone of their messages. "the long overdue revolution"?? Who can honestly believe that this came out anyone with a serious commitment to the Left, or in particular to the anti-war movement? Do you think that posting the socialist alliance website is going to make you look like the real thing? Why don't you guys go off and chase down the corrupt accountants who are really putting capitalist civilization in danger? But I suppose that would be hard work wouldnt it, and might require a bit more cerebral horse power than you can muster?

Watching

Oh no....

...I used the dreaded "R" word in a posting, which automatically makes me a horrible, nasty, slimy, SWP sucker-upper! Yuk, yuk, yuk!

Now seriously, "watching", how do you suppose we would otherthrow the captialism? Just by waving placards, selling papers and chanting various slogans in Hyde Park? Come on! There is a word that describe how to overthow capitalism, I just can't think of it, think it begins with R. Now, what can it be?
