Activists from a diverse range of groups protested at the selfridges store in Oxford street over their continued support of Israeli illegal settlements. The shop continues to stock goods in its food hall that are produced by Israelis on occupied palistinian land. Despite a heavy police presence demonstraters managed to enter the shop to make their point on several occasions. The demo attracted a lot of support from passing shoppers in oxford street. There was 1 arrest at the time that this report was published.

Some pics from outside selfridges (3rd august 2002).

Outside the store people handed out leaflets and a small band added noise. People marched up and down the pavements of oxford street and blocked the road for a couple of minutes here and there.

The last time this happened (around 3pm I think) police shoved everyone back onto the pavements just outside selfridgres itself. A couple of cops then continued shoving people while they stood on the pavement and a woman playing one of the drums was grabbed by police and pulled across the road. She was detained by being pushed against a tree and was handcuffed before being put into a police van and driven away. People were shouting she'd done nothing but the police were pretty aggressive, punching one photographer in the balls - several people tried to block the path of the police van when it began to drive away - unsuccessfuly as the van continued to accelerate, with people sprinting ahead of it down the street.

Following this incident things calmed down and people dispersed over the next half hour, some going to the police station the girl had been taken to, to show solidarity and support.

US Interference

27.10.2002 12:10

For anyone still in any doubt as to US interference in the middle east, blatant siding with Israel, and failure to express regret at the death of innocent Palestinians then read this piece of Whitehouse propoganda by one George Bush.
