Transcription of live news broadcast on No Borders radio, plus other information

At the Place Cathedral today there was a demonstration adn exhibition of dispossessed peoples: palestiniian solidarity, catalunian solidarity, eastern-eruopean solidarity....then the police came and began to ask what was going on...other people, not from the camp or the demo, started shouting "no borders, no nations, stop deportations!" The police started to arrest people and move them off - a load were taken away in a car along with materials and leaflets from the exhibitions; about 25 others were placed on a bus and driven back to the campsite.

12 people confirmed arrested - although circumstances not clear.

Publix Theatre caravan has returned to the No Borders camp - they were tear gassed earlier after they tried to intervene against police brutality

26.Jul.02 - Strassbourg - On the eighth day of the international No Bordercamp, it has become clear that police repression is growing stronger every hour.

A report from the legal group on the situation so far. Since midnight 25th July no groups or 'members' of the No Border Collective are allowed to manifest in the streets of Strassbourg. This is decided by the prefect by means of an 'arret du prefect'.

The city of Strassbourg is coloured blue by the uniforms of the police, surveiling on every corner, ready to use their sticks and teargas.

At 2 PM today a courtcase took place against one of the people that was arrested on Wednessday. Although courtcases in France are normally open for the public to attend, the police was not willing to let anyone in. The courthearing was closed, which was, according to our laywer not possible, or simply illegal. Supporters of the imprisoned person insisted on being able to attend this hearing and in the end the police allowed fifteen people to enter the Palace de Justice, but not after being searched and their identity checked.

Hundred people are in support still waiting outside for news, which has just now arrived. The accused has to await his courtcase on the 21st of August in prison.

At this moment several people are being arrested without a reason in the city-centre of Strassbourg.

We demand immediate release of the arrested and an end to police-repression.

As I sit here in a white office I am envious of you folks in Strasbourg. It seems that the organizers of this event really need a big thank you. Love the concept of having seperate collectivs and having those collectives come together to make a larger NO BORDER CAMP decision. Hope that the process you all are going through will enable you to develop your own sustainable equitable living systems. Learning by living.

It is too bad the police have taken orders so well. When will they realize who the real criminals are? When will they all sit around and laugh with us at street theatre and eat food with us and even play a game of soccer?

While reading about folks being released from jail and having a march to meet them I felt such a strong community sense. Can only imagine how strong your NOBORDERS community is. Probably neither parties knew the others would be there to meet each other. Quite beautiful!

Very interested in reading reports about the decision making process. Thanks so much for living this for yourselves and others. Hope that you all teach and learn from each other. Have fun.

In Peace,
Pete
