STRASBOURG, France, July 23 — Anarchists demanding an end to all national borders have damaged some hotels, torn down flags and spray-painted slogans around the French city of Strasbourg during a meeting here, police said on Tuesday.


Four protesters -- three Germans and a Spaniard -- were questioned by police on Monday evening after the French and European flags were torn down in a central square of the city, home to the European Parliament and Council of Europe.
After they were taken in, about 100 members from a group called ''No Border'' gathered outside the city's police headquarters under a banner proclaiming ''smash capitalism.''
The four were later released but ordered to return for a judicial hearing in February. One was found to be carrying a switchblade knife, police said.
During the evening, roving groups of anarchists attacked several hotels in the city, spray-painting their facades and wrecking some furniture, police said without giving further details.
Several hundred ''No Border'' activists are currently in the city close to the German border to demand the abolition of all frontiers and free movement through all states on earth.
