Tens of thousands in the streets of Genoa - update

IMC'ista | 20.07.2002 18:33

Update from 6pm genoa time:

Today in Genoa thousands and thousands of people gathered in the square where Carlo was shot dead by police to commemorate the one year anniversary of his death and the Genoa anti-G8 protests.

The square was full to bursting and people clapped for what seemed like almost an hour after speeches by his family and others at the exact time that he was shot at.

As I write tens and tens of thousands have set off from piazza america for the demonstration moving towards the palace where the G8 meeting was centred last year - the size of the protest has been swelled by the addition of one of the largest trade unions the CGIL.

The mood has been mixed but overall it has been both sombre and moving, a human day for connecting with each other, sometimes it has been hard not to be overcome with emotion.

big emotion.
Carlo lives in our heart and in our ideas.
I won't be able to forget Genova...2001 and Genova 2002.
It should be important to don't forget what happened....

I hope that this moment for all the people that believe in justice keep on grow...
