BAKTIYARI BOYS SEEK BRITISH ASYLUM
Two boys who escaped from the Woomera hell hole have just walked into the British Consulate in Melbourne, seeking asylum from Britain. Their father, who has been recognised as a 'genuine refugee' has been informed ,and will pass the word on to their mother. He is delighted and relieved.

This will be a powerful test of the sense of decency and fair play for which the British are so proud. Will they do the right thing and free this oppressed family from the psychological torture that they have endured for more than a year at the hands of John Howard? We look forward to further developments.

Ali Baktiyari (the boys' father) attended the launch of "The Worst of Woomera": at the NSW State Parliament on Tuesday. The story of how his family has been divided by the Australian Department of Immigration is one of many in the book. The Government has recognised Ali as a genuine refugee, and he is free on a TPV, while his wife and five children await deportation in Woomera.

Immediate pressure to allow these boys asylum in Britain is needed. Don't let the consulate hand the boys back to Ruddock and Howard!!!! The feeling in Australia is that Britain will care more about the feelings of it's inhabitants than it's relationship with the Australian government. I'm sure that you could get some press coverage - poor young boys locked up even though their father has been granted asylum etc. Even some of the tabloids might go for that?

I don't have any more details right now as it only happened in the last couple of hours, but will update you asap.
