The Blitz Festival: 20th- 27th July 2002
An international arts event devised by a Manchester collective, designed to provoke and inspire.


1. VISUAL ARTS
AgiTATE: 20th -27th of July- @ the Great Northern. [Units 25-28 1st Floor, Great Northern Warehouse, Great Northern Square, Deansgate, Manchester.]
The artistic underground conspire to show that there is more to Manchester than meets the officially sanctioned eye. It is about interaction between the public and 'art' in the face of the new trend for 'culture-lite' From the untrained street style of the new wave of Manchester grafitti artist, to the work of Crass album cover designer Gee Vaucher, AgiTATE will also showcase fine artists, photographers, cartoonists, performance and installation artists; as well as a number of slide show lectures, films and performances by contributors. We are also pleased to welcome Mark Cooley and Seth Tobocman over from America. Examples of work and short written statements are available for each artist.

BODY POLITIC: Sun 21st - Sun 28th July @ The Greenroom, in the Workspace [4-11pm daily]
An exhibition by 12 contemporary artists tackling issues around sex and the gendered body.


2.OPEN-AIR MUSIC EVENT: 20th July @ Great Northern Square
To kick off AgiTate, [12 pm-10pm] Mixing up new comers with old timers on an open air stage. Includes Manchester names like Dr Scruff, the finest punk-pop of Stephen Nancy, Desolation Angels and the ska jives of the Agents of Groove. Guest appearances from Freakbeat Reactor and Rebelation. Starring Ozomatli raw energy from hip hop salsa stars from LA (awaiting confirmation)


3.FILM, PERFORMANCE AND INTERACTIVE ARTS: 24th-27th July @ Green Room + Great Northern
Five nights of film and interactive art:
Wednesday 24th July @ Green room [8-12pm]
Yeast Experience- A multimedia / music event from London's Yeast Collective a very exciting vision of entertainment blending cutting edge video projections, music and live performance. Plus Panjit G from Asian Dub Foundation on the decks. BEyONdTV co-ordinate.
Thursday 25th July + Friday 26th July @ Great Northern, in a downstairs unit; [5-8pm]
BEyONdTV pools it's network of not-for-profit video activists, inc. Bristol's I-Contact and Tyneside's Radical Film Festival. Inspirational alternative media and films from.Full programme will be available from July on the Beyondtv.org website.
Thursday 25th July @ Green room [8- 12pm]
A special Blitz edition of Vaudeville, covering the theme of desire with film and performance art
Saturday 27th July @ Green room [8-12pm]
Psychic Bread and guests- mixing video, poetry by Mark Gwynne Jones and other performance. Feat. New York's most renowned underground cartoonist Seth Tobocman performing a multi-media slideshow with music from Cybec Blood. BEyONdTV co-ordinate.

THE BLITZ FESTIVAL HAS BEEN ORGANISED BY THE NORTHERN ARTS TACTICAL OFFENSIVE, A BANNER ARTS ORGANISATION DEDICATED TO THE PRODUCTION OF SPONTANEOUS, CONSCIOUS AND PUBLIC ART.

good to see events about art relevant to life and radical.
The greenham march sculpture, a woman and child (she wears a cnd t shirt and the child holds a dove) has now an agreed site the foyer of City Hall Cardiff. a roller coaster od a twelve year campaign in many countries with lots of difficulties see web site. www.wfloe.fsnet.co.uk. keep up the good work thalia campbell
