Anti government protests in Iran

Workers left Unity- Iran | 10.07.2002 14:27

Iranian demonstrators were shouting the following slogans:"freedom for all political prisoners" , "Unity, Unity", "Khatami resign", "Referendum, Referendum".

According to reports from Tehran thousands of Iranians have demonstrated 9th of July July, the third anniversary of the student protests of 1999 against Iran's Islamic regime, despite a government ban imposed by both factions of the regime on any protest. The demonstrators were shouting the following slogans:"freedom for all political prisoners" , "Unity, Unity", "Khatami resign", "Referendum, Referendum". The military and security forces ,gathered in Azadi square, used tear gas to disperse the demonstrators however it appears that similar protests were taking place in other parts of the city and demonstration are continuing late into the night. There were sporadic clashes for several hours and some demonstrators were injured, others arrested or beaten. Some demonstrators reported the widespread presence of plain clothes security forces, including members of Hezbollah. Given government polls showing that less than 6 percent of the population support the more conservative factions of the regime, an increasing use of repressiom is to be expected. Workers Left Unity -Iran supports anti government protests in Iran, a sign of the frustration of the majority population with unfulfilled promises by 'reformists'. We condemn the use of security forces and their brutality in attacking protesters . Coordinating Committee of Workers Left Unity- Iran

The Iranian protesters often carry U.S. flags when they protest, they see the U.S. as a liberator just as the U.S. liberated(yes I said LIBERATED) Afganistan from the
Taliban.Pro U.S. rallys are also frequent in football games as well. I'm sure that really pisses you commie anti-semitic basterds off!

Sir Nose

Sir Nose, if you have any evidence for your claim that Iranian pro-reform demonstrators wave US flags on demonstrations and see the USA as a liberator, please be so kind as to present it to us.

I haved lived in Iran all my life (I'm in the UK for a short trip) and I've yet to see any US flag waving protesters. Almost everyone here from all political hues view the US with great mistrust. Our experiances under the US-sponsered Shah were horrific and we dont want to go back there.

As for the MKO, well what can I say about them except **** off! They helped (the then US backed) Saddam kill so many of our people that I really don't have words for them.

All we want is a representative government who work for the people, and that means that nothing that the US approves off will do. We dont want to be another US client state. We'll leave that to the UK.

Well it doesnt seem like the comment regarding the flag needs addressing- thats been delt with. As for the anit-semitic shit lay off would you. First off Semites, at least in any official definition include arabs so that fact this story was in favour of a group of Iranians that doesnt stand. If you meant it as in against Jews well I'm sorry but theres a difference between religion and state. If someone attacks Isreals policies they arent attcking a ethnic group. I'm Jewish, I think Isreal's actions are disgusting, and I think your a fool. Stop yelling racist when people disagree with you and actually attack their arguements - or shut it
