Tonight several people have atarted a 'sit-in' hunger strike at Aldwych (London) in support of the hunger strike in the Woomera refugee detention centre in Australia. They plan to stay until Wednesday evening. Come down and join them!

As I was cycling home today from Holborn (around 18:30) I ran into four or five people sat at the eastside crossing of Aldwych and the Strand. They were carrying banners and plaques in support of the asylum seekers who are staging a hunger strike in the notorious Australian Woomera detention centre against the brutal circumstances they are forced to live in.

The people told me they plan to stay there until Wednesday evening to call attention to the Woomera situation and get people here involved in the issue. They also told me their action is part of a global support campaign for the asylum seekers' own actions and that they invite everybody to join them. I don't know how well organised this is and had a feeling that the people are not very well connected to activists here, but I think it is a simple but very impressive and visible action that we should support, especially since it ties in so well with what a lot of us are working on at the moment.

So if you're around, please come. I'll be updating this message as soon as I get back, to let you know wheither they are still there and if they still need people.
