100 protesters danced their way to the rhythms of samba drums through the small Essex village of Weeley on Sunday.
We marched to the gates of Weeley Lodge Farm where the GM Maize of the Aventis/Bayer corporation is being grown.
A heavy police presence was there. The protesters decorated the gates of the farm with biohazard symbols and then went on to the weeley village fete against GM for tea and cakes. A video called 'stop the crop' was shown to a packed village hall, and a discussion on GM, global corporate power and peacefull direct action followed. Protesters will be taking their message to London on 24th July, to join with campaigners from accross the UK.
