Swazi opposition members fear state violence

According to Swaziland Solidarity Campaign's (SSC) sources in South Africa, the government this week began implementation of the draconian Internal Security Bill before it has received parliamentary approval. This is evidence of blatant totalitarianism by the monarchy.

There have been no reports as yet on whether any arrests have been made under the Bill. Many leading members of the Swaziland Youth Congress (SWAYOCO) targetted by police for their political activities are now having their houses raided and their family members, friends and colleagues are being harrassed.

One SWAYOCO member told SSC that "police special branch cars are monitoring the movements of polical activists on a constant basis. All PUDEMO and SWAYOCO exiles in South Africa have been alerted to strange and sinister moves of the Swazi police who are seen moving around in cars with South African regsitration and the suspicion is high that they are preparing targets for possible elimination."

The situation in Swaziland is becoming more dire by the day and activists around the world need to show their solidarity with the Swazi freedom struggle.
