Activities in Oslo against the World Bank

Demonstrations and other forms of protest are being organized in connection with the World Bank’s ABCDE-conference in Oslo (24. – 26. june). Different groups arrange a wide variety of events – below you will find an overview of some the activities.
Friday 21. june: Concert/Party
YaBasta Beats – A blow against the World Bank: Concert, party and preparations for protests against the World Bank and lots more. The YaBasta-Collective, Ivar Aasensvei 2: subway # 1 (Frognerseteren) to Frøen station – then follow the signs. Starts at 9.00 p.m (21.00).
Saturday 22. june: Protests, actions, open meeting
Protest against surveillance and control: Privacy, civil rights, freedom of speech, the right to dissent, the right to travel freely between countries and many other basic human rights are today in danger in modern western democracies. Stop the criminalization of resistance! Stop the criminalization of refugees! Meet in front of the parliament at noon (12.00). Arr: Blitz.
Remote Control Action: a different type of protest at noon (12.00) by the musicpavilion in front of the National Theatre (Nationatheateret) in Oslo. It aims to show how structural adjustment in reality functions as an efficient tool to control the economy of countries in the South. Arr. SLUG
Open meeting: The struggle against neoliberal globalization Socialdemocratic neoreformism or a social emancipation movement? Ssaturday 22. june, 2.00 p.m. (14.00). At Spisestedet, Hjelmsgate 3 (Majorstua, Oslo). Arr: Bokcafeen Jaap.
Sunday 23. june: Counter-conference and festival
The World Bank arrange the ABCDE-conference where they claim that structural adjustment programs reduce poverty instead of increasing it. Activists arrange “Open Forum” whose aim is to expose the World Bank’s activities and it’s consequences by looking at experiences and initiatives made by the civil society . Festival: Music, speeches, barbeque: Festival against the World Bank in Oslo. Starts at 4.00 p.m. (16.00), at Kontraskjæret, in front of Akershus castle. See the bands.
Monday 24. june: Protestmarch and Reclaim the Streets
Oslo2002 arranges a "large, colorful and exciting protest- march.” Blitz has their own section in the march: get dressed to join ”Carnival against capitalism.” We’ll meet at the square in front of the Central Station at 6.00 p.m. (18.00)
Reclaim the Streets Gigantic street-party: against police violence, against the World Bank and capitalism, against the commercialisation of streets and gardens. The party kicks off right after the big protestmarch (around 8.00 p.m. – 20.00) in Vaterlandsparken, Grønland in Oslo (by the Plaza Hotel). Reclaim the Streets
Tuesday 25. june: Popular meeting and decentralised actions
Popular meeting on the World Bank’s policies, complete with musical entertainment . Square in front of the Central Station at 6.00 p.m. (18.00). Arr: Blitz.
Decentralised-actions day: Various organisations and groups will mark Oslo with different actions and protests.
