LONDON UK 13th June 2002
MEGAwati Murderer Meets with Blair
Protesters disrupt her entrance to Downing Street

Today the President of Indonesia, Megawati came to meet Tony Blair as part of her European tour. Koteka (penis gourd) wearing protestors, with placards, posters and a grave stone for the mudered Papuan leader Theys Eluay sat in the entrance to Downing St stalling her cortege and drawing attention to the human rights abuses in west Papua, commited by the indonesia military and police supported by the US and British governments. Police dragged protesters quickly out of the way, whist others shouted and screamed "MURDERER!" and "GET OUT OF PAPUA".
When Megawati and her party left the heavily guarded "Downing St", shouts of "Papua Merdeka" were hurled across and banners reading "Mega Murderer" were waved in the air. The entire Indonesian press entourage grabbed their opportunity and immediately ran across the street filming the protesters shouting "Papua Merdeka" (free West Paua), "Megawati bunuh Theys" (Megawati killed Theys) and "Benny Wenda merdeka" (free Benny Wenda) beside a gravestone to Theys Eluay. In response to the press's questions they were informed in Indonesian and English that the protestors were here in solidarity for the Papuan people's fight for freedom and justice and that as UK citzens they object the British Government's involvement in supplying arms, weapons of mass destruction and support to the Indonesian regime. Also highlighted was the fact that Megawati officially sanctioned the assasination of Theys Eluay, independence leader of West Papua. They also called for the release of Benny Wenda, chair of DEMMAK (Koteka tribal council) who was arrested on 8th June. watch highlights here
