Organizing for a better world

What is the European Social Forum?

The European Social Forum will bring together thousands of people in Florence this autumn to oppose the free market and militarism, the policies which dominate the mainstream political agenda across Europe. The ESF is to be based on the World Social Forum that took place in February in Porto Alegre, Brazil. Anti-capitalists, greens, trade unionists, socialists and many others will all protest and debate how we can create a better world.

What is the Mobilisation for the European Social Forum?

MESF brings together groups and individuals to organise for the ESF in England. We want to publicise the event, build support for it, organise transport to Italy, and so forth. Our first meeting, of over sixty people, included anti-capitalists, socialists, greens, NGOs and trade unionists.

There was a meeting the other month in London, from what I could tell most of the people who attended where linked to SWP - why didn't many groups hear about this meeting - we are into the idea of a social forum, a UK forum, european forum etc. But why do groups have to be secretive about it?
Have the ' organised' left not learned that people are no longer intrested in top down organisations - in being told what to do etc.

I agree that we need open organising, inclusive of all groups...but if you aren't happy about the way the mobilisaiton is happening, organise people to go anyway; no-one says you have to go with the SWP. It'd be preferable for all UK activists to do things together, sure, but if you can't stomach working with certain people don't gripe...just go in a different group. Organise your union, your affinity group, whatever works....

If we can't inspire - than we should retire

I don't want to be bored and feel like I'm wasting my time, having to listen to long drawn out boring speeches, having saving all the dosh to go there. And then get accused of being sectarian cos you don't want to work in bullshit fashion.
Seize the time.
Being involved should inspire you - not wish you were at home wishing you were watching big brother.
