TAKE ACTION FOR CLIMATE JUSTICE!

Climate change is well and truly here and picking up speed. So how are we
going to rise above the despair and apathy that it leaves in its wake and
actually do something about it here in London?
That's the subject of the info and benefit cafe night to be held from
6.30pm on Friday 14th June 2002. Funds raised will go towards the new London-based
Rising Tide action/education group that is being formed: the date of the first
meeting will be confirmed at the cafe.
This event is also part of the ongoing Rising Tide tour of selected UK regions.

What is Rising Tide?
Rising Tide UK is a new rapidly growing grassroots network. It supports
community initiatives and local protest against climate change, and for
climate justice. It's also a part of the international Rising Tide network
(www.risingtide.nl). There are now 12 local group contacts and 3 regional
networks. The website, www.risingtide.org.uk, contains a wide range of
resources, updates and links. Over 800 people receive the email news-sheet
which contains the latest news, events and actions of the grassroots climate
campaign. To subscribe, send a blank email to:
risingtide-subscribe@topica.com. (Your details will not be passed to anyone else.)

Rising Tide believes that the Kyoto Protocol will fail to combat the climate
change crisis. Instead, the protocol promotes the self-interest of
industrialised nations and corporations, marginalising issues of global equity
and the environment.

Rising Tide advocates:
·a minimum of 60% reductions in carbon emissions now,
·leading to a 90% cut in the next 10 years
·a 'Just Transition' to renewable energy sources, with a low consumption lifestyle
·repayment of the North's ecological debt to the South
·equal access to, and responsibility for common global resources for all people
·that solutions to climate chaos and the achievement of climate justice
must be defined by those most severely affected
·current and future support for refugees of all kinds.

Rising Tide is against:
·new fossil fuel exploration
. emissions trading, carbon sinks, Clean Development Mechanism, Joint Implementation and the other false solutions which are being used to make money and escape responsibility for emission reductions.

The Rising Tide Network will take action until the threats of climate
change have been resolved in an equitable and effective way.
