M&S PICKET!
M&S Oxford Street, 173 Oxford Street, Thursday 30 May, 6-8pm

Is it enough to read newspaper articles and websites?
Is it enough to show up at demonstrations once a month?

"There is only one way to create a movement of profound social change, and it is very simple. Each person that is deeply committed gets someone else deeply committed. And so on.”
Why M&S? Because M&S...
* supports Israel with £233 million in trade every year
* sells goods produced in the illegally occupied territories
* sees "aiding the economic development of Israel" as "one of its fundamental objectives" (Lord Marcus Sieff, long-time Chairman of M&S)
* was known in Zionist circles in the 1920s - 1940s as "the Family" ("Zionism was the Leitmotif of their lives,” said Chaim Weizman, Israeli’s first President,)
* served as key diplomatic allies for Israel in the 1920s
* "was prominent, even essential, [to Zionism] from the 1960s through to the 1980s ... partly because of its strong historical links with Zionism; and partly for its success in getting Israeli goods to the British marketplace." (Barry Kosmin)
* received the Jubilee Award from Netanyahu in 1998, the highest tribute of the Israeli state
* was honoured last year by the Israeli Ambassador to Britain in a veremony in London
* "are as close to Israel as we have ever been" (M&S Spokesperson, Jewish Chronicle, 22 December 2000)
By targetting M&S, we can...
* give unity and power to the boycott movement
* hurt M&S financially
* send a message to other pro-Zionist companies
* build up a core of dedicated activists through street work
* Help us build the kind of movement that actually will make a difference.
Flags, banners, posters, placards, drums, whistles ... Bring them!
