I was reading 'Black Box' by Amos Oz over the weekend, and I came across this dialogue between an estranged mother and son...

You just fuss all the time instead of doing something. Including that 'saint' and his mates from the territories. They're living off the Bible, living off politics, living off speeches and arguments, instead of living off life. It's the same thing with the Arabs. They've learned from the Jews how to eat their hearts out and how to eat each other and how to eat people instead of ordinary food. I'm not saying the Arabs aren't bastards. They are, and worse. So what? Bastards are still human beings. Not shit. It's a shame for them to die. In the end the Jews will finish them off or they'll finish the Jews off or they'll finish each other off and there'll be nothing left in this country except the Bible and the Koran and the foxes and and burned ruins."
(I like it. Zionism is a dirty word nowadays, but it shouldnt be. People here will read the above and pick what to agree with and what to ignore. Amos Oz paints the picture like it is, its very complex...)

AMOS OZ supports represion of Palestinians

After the outbreak of the 2nd Intifada, Amos Oz and many of his friends in PEACE NOW (Israeli Peace group) decided that the Palestinians were ungrateful to rebel against Barak's "generous" offer made at Camp David, and turned against them, many now deciding to support the IDF and Israeli State Terrorism.
(Unfortunately they didn't realise that under the peace process life had actually gotten worse for ordinary Palestinians, living standards had plummetted, and repression actually increased)
And the peace offer itself was far from generous -
(I refer readers to an excellent article on the Website of GUSH SHALOM - the ISRAELI PEACE BLOC - on what was ungenerous about Barak's offer).
PEACE NOW is an organisation that constantly talks of peace in terms of Israel's security, and the damage the Occupation does to Israel's reputation, and the effects the Occupation has on Israel.
They forget that Palestinians have absolutely no security, they live under military occupation, they have no state, just the number of Palestinian children killed is more than the total number of Israeli's killed in this conflict.
The Israeli Defence Forces have beaten up hundreds of pregnant women (who have suffered miscarriages), peaceful demonstrators, practice torture, bulldozed Palestinian houses to the ground, teargassed mosques etc. etc.

Both Palestinians and Israelis deserve equal rights and Justice, and freedom from fear.
The current situation dehumanizes both oppressor and oppressed.

And I have that phrase echoing in my head, "foxes and burned ruins", and I can see that happening if the Sharons and the Barghoutis carry on in Israel without support from the international community for Peace movements, especially those in Israel.
