Their bizarre theory of State capitalism , where the USSR 'equalled' the USA, was disingenuous, because it forgot to include the UK too. this is a compromise of convenience, for the SWP relies on support from the labour party which is of course, absolutely complicit in British imperialism. (that goes for the lefties as much as Blair). Moreover, such ideas were around even in Trotskys own day, and he decisively rejected them ( see Burnham, Djilas, Etc).
The SWP renounces Trotsky while claiming to deify him; they sieze on a few wrong predictions he made at the outbreak of WW2 as excuse to write-off his entire analysis of the times (See 'In Defence of Marxism', 'Revolution Betrayed' Etc) when in fact these slips are common: All the major political thinkers have made such mistakes, including Marx ! Trotsky insisted in these final years that the collapse of the USSR (no matter how 'bad' it was) would bring about something much, much worse, and anyone living in Konigsberg or Vladivostok may tend to agree. The SWP make the same deliberate mistake with China, now. If the relics of Maoist China collapse, the result may not be within contemplation.... defend China, and all the surviving socialist regimes.

The branches must be kept small enough, that if the need arises, they can be flooded to force the party line, and kill all independent thought. Current actions will not be discussed, branches are kept too small to do anything anyway. All planned actions are sent down from central office, to the branches. There can be no room for debate in the SWP, a truly democratic organisation, following the path of Chairman Mao.

The Branch structure is a clever way of socially engineering the party so we can force out those showing symptoms of independent thought, which does not conform to Leon Trotsky's ideals of a Fourth International, and so they don't infect others, or to isolate them, so they don't spread this evil cancer, while they are being reindoctrinated.
