Sectarianism in Northern Ireland

Zach | 19.05.2002 19:17

just a comment on some of the nonsense vis a vis Northern Ireland that l have read on the Indysite...

I never could have expected to see such nonsense as this on
a leftie site.
There's a lot of people in Northern Ireland with really crap views, and little of what l have read above has done anything to change my mind on that.
The RUC (or PSNI or whatever) are pretty unpleasant, as are the Community Restorative Justice people.
Neither offer any kind of analytic solution to dealing with crime and social delinquence. The RUC regularly hassle and occasionally beat up people from working class communities. Once in a while they lock them up, too. The CRJ regularly hassle and occasionally beat up people from working class communities.
Neither see the indignity of poverty and deprivation as the root cause of social delinquence. Rather, it's just a case of some young lads getting out of hand, and having to be dealt with.
Fuck you both.
And an Anarchist voting Republican? Giving Anarchists a bad name, l reckon. Not just for voting, but for supporting fairly sectarian organisations like Sinn Fein. And when's the last time a protestant worker ever gained from Sinn Fein's blatantly Blairite, corporatitst politics.
And what l really want to know is how can you have contributors using fairly class-conscious language asking people to support Sinn Fein? If there is going to be a class-based, irreligious political party in Northern Ireland, it will NOT be Sinn Fein. They have too much of a sectarian history to ever appeal to Protestant workers. Besides, Sinn Fein has made too much of a rightwards shift to recover to a left-leaning position where they can even pretend to be a party acting ON BEHALF of workers' interests, as they once did.

At this very moment in belfast, family homes in the short strand have had their windows broken by golf balls, ball bearings, and various other missiles reigning down every night of this week, ordinary people in the short strand, (and there are pictures of this), have seen loyalist rioters using PSNI/RUC peeler wagons to stand on, to get a better view of the houses in the short strand, so that they can have a better firing range, whilst PSNI/RUC do nothing and have been seen handing bricks and other missiles to the loyalist rioters to use against short strand residents. there is a reason why the short strand has been targeted by the PSNI/RUC and their loyalist cohorts, the reason is this, intelligence sources, believe class war anti monarchists and some main land anarchists have aligned themselves with republican paramilitaries in the short strand, and these people are believed to be behind the recent slogans on gable walls, royal family, wheres your granny now about time too etc. known class war anarchists have been observed going into the short strand community center, a center which is modelled on the black panthers 10 point programme, and indeed Bernadetter McAliskey who visited the black panthers in the 1960's has frequented the short strand community forum. the fact remains ordinary people are entitled to their own political convictions, you cannot force a whole community to support the PSNI/RUC, or force a community not to associate with people that the state doesnt like,ie DHKCP, CLASS WAR, FARC, EZLN, it is up to ordinary working class people to determine, their own destiny, and to do it self autonomously, without the instruction, interference and direction of the state.

As a working class protestant living in leitrim, after fleeing sectarianism in the north. Sein Fein stood up on my behalf, when i was homeless and as a result i'm now living in a council bungalow, when no other mainstream middle class political party would touch me with a bargepole, because 1)i'm a prod,2)i'm from the shankill, all the other political parties i went to for support, just looked down their noses at me, i dont know much about Sein Fein's politics, all i know is they're not snobby aloof fuckers. We all know politics is a con, but at ground level, when there's no where else to turn, its good to know there is some help.

Arms for the UVF

UVF loyalists arrested in Scotland recently, were stockpiling weapons to protect UVF members from rumours of the resurgence of the bitter UFF/nazis feud against the UVF/left wingers. I'd like to know why the british state is cracking down on left wing UVF members and putting them in prison, whilst simultaneously releasing Mad arsehole UFF scumbag wimp Johnny Adair back out on to the streets to rekindle the feud. UVF members have a right to rearm and defend themselves against the threat of renewed hostilities due to the release of gobshite Adair, you know wat they say'testosterone steroids abuse, leads to growing of bitch tits, enlarged male breasts and the shrinking of male penises'. so even though adair has big biceps and has put on 200lbs round his belly, is penis has shrunk to the size of a match stick.

The British Empire is no more, all it is today is a loyal attack dog for U.S. imperialism.

Remember the great Irish hero and comrade of all workers James Connolly?

So...the question is...whose side your on?
