Soldiers fired tank-mounted machine guns after Palestinians in the Askar refugee camp threw stones and some of the bullets penetrated Amid Abu Sir's home, fatally wounding him, the witnesses said. The camp is near the northern West Bank city of Nablus.

The Israeli army said it was checking the report.

Abu Sir's father was one of the six wounded with shrapnel wounds to his thigh and leg. Three of the injured were children, the witnesses said.

Family members said the boy was preparing to attend Friday prayers with his father when he was hit by the bullets.
