STOP PLANS FOR BUSINESS VOTE

Millennium Leia | 01.05.2002 09:15

The richest authority in the capital, the secret and unaccountable City of London is proposing to give business a vote after Tony Blair personally put in a private bill that is a blatant attempt to undermine democracy in Great Britain. We hope May Day will be able to highlight this.

The City of London, which borders poorest boroughs in the UK Tower Hamlets and Hackney, plans to allow business to appoint representatives to vote depending on the rateable value of their offices. People will no longer be represented and the first step towards blatant economic tyranny will be the result.

This authority should not be secret, it should have open elections, it should be accountable, its property portfolio must be exposed and its cash slash funds must be released to help the poor bankrupt neighbouring boroughs.

Stop the Business Vote
