Anti-racist march...

I certainly will be there...but a lot of people I've spoken to have (in some instances, justifiably) voiced great concern about joining a pro-Palestinian march, simply because there is scope for it to turn into an anti-Israel march instead. THe two are different. I'm against SHaron, and against the occupation of Palestinian territory, and for a Palestinian state....but I won't be comfortable marching with people shouting "Death to Israel" and "drive the Jews into the sea", which has happened to me on past occasions.

I hope it won't happen this time...and that if it does, it'll be quickly addressed. Otherwise I'll be just as quickly off the demo and walking home.

something to consider

I understand your worry. But think about it..

If us anti-capitalists stay away from pro-Palestinian events, it makes it look like we don't care. That risks leaving groups with anti-semitic tendencies as the only focus for Palestine solidarity.

In my view this is part of what's gone wrong in France!

Better to get involved, and challenge racism whenever it raises its ugly head, from within the solidarity campaign itself. Anyone who's been on the anti-war and pro-Palestine demos here has seen the diversity, and the fierce interest in ideas and debate. We do best being there, where the action is, and being confident in our arguments.
