About the cartoon:

On the 16-17 September 1982 Israeli-backed Lebanese
militias raided the refugee camps of Sabra and Shatila
(in Beirut) killing an estimated 3000-3500 in just 2
days. In 1982 Sharon (current Israeli PM) was the
minister of defence in the Israeli government. A later
Israeli trial found Sharon guilty of complicity for
making no attempt to intervene, his forces provided a
net of IDF troops to stop refugees escaping.

A British medical doctor working in Beirut at the time
graphically described the carnage when she wrote:
"Besides being shot dead, people were tortured before
being killed. They were beaten brutally, electric
wires were tied round limbs, eyes were dug out, women
were raped (often more than once), and children were
dynamited alive." (from
