In the first general strike in Italy for 20 years, millions of workers let Berlusconi know that capital needs them more than they need capital

Italy has ground almost to a halt today as all state workers and most private workers go on the first general strike in 20 years. While particularly targetting alterations to Article 18, the 30-year-old hard won workers rights law, the strike is also linking together with what are still called "no-global" movements and anti-capitalist activists and anarchists as a demonstration against capital. The government tells us we've got to make these sacrifices to join in with the rest of the world economy - but now that we've seen who benefits from the new world economy, and who loses out (us!) we're not going to swallow any more of that crap - don't bring Italy into line with Europe, where workers rights are afast fading memory - bring the rest of Europe (and the world) into line with at least the few rights we still have - spread the struggle - bring on a Europe-wide general strike against the Europe of Capital!
Solidarity with independent union COBAS in Italy and all the Italian "Dissobedienti" in Palestine, and all the Italian workers taking the broad view and understanding where their struggle fits in with global capitalism.
