A WOMBLES type person innit | 15.04.2002 10:03

The WOMBLES will be having a pre-Mayday public meeting on the 20th April at 4pm. The meeting will be in Conway Hall.

We will be discussing the WOMBLE 7 trial, what the WOMBLES will be up to this Mayday as well as some legal advice and a look at the Whiteoverall/padded tactic.

There will also be people speaking from the Mayday Collective (including Festival of Alternatives) and many other exciting things.

All are welcome. Please spread the news far and wide.

Love 'n' Rage 'n' all that!

WOMBLES?

Incidentally,
I have heard that the WOMBLES split in two, because half of them supported the war in Afghanistan, as a war for women, (in reference to the nature of the Taliban regime).
Is this true?

Yes, it is sadly true. The members of the WOMBLES have now formed the WOMBLIS (White Overalls Movement Believing in Love and Inoffensive Soft things) and the WOMBLAS (White Overalls Movement for Bombing the Last Afghans into Submission).

Needless to say, the first group were all police spies to begin with. Fluffy Bastards. Whereas the second group attracts so much surveillance from international security agencies their effectiveness is virtually zero.

The only option now is to form an independent group based around the twin principles of not mentioning the war and wearing sofa cushions.

Oh me, oh my, times change so fast round here :(

Split rumours not actually true

15.04.2002 14:26

The Wombles have not split at all.

Well actually that's not entirely true, there was this old Stalinist who subscribed to one womble-related egroup, who had never been to a W meeting or a W action, or ever actually met a womble, but who supported the war and ran to a friend in the Telegraph saying that the Wombles had split because half of them supported the war (him) and half didn't (everyone else), hence their article "Anticapitalist guerillas lost in a greater war" (!!) which seems to be where this bullshit rumour came from.

For the record, wombles have been present at all the antiwar demonstrations, though mostly not in white overalls (just because you can't see us doesn't mean we're not there...)

There was no split.

15.04.2002 17:05

I beleive the split was a myth put about by Wombles-infiltrationg telgraph journolist Tom Harding, along with someone called Peter Cadogen, who was not part of the wombles, and argued that we should support the Northern Alliance's Afgan war, but not the american war on afganistan.

The Wombles as a group have taken part in Stop the War Coalition marches.
