afghan solidarity campaign

25 million Afghans need to rebuild their lives. A fifth of them are refugees, the world’s biggest refugee population. An already
backward economy has been smashed by Taliban rule and 20 years of civil war.
The small labour movement and the left in Afghanistan were the first victims of Jihadi terror. Thousands were massacred, many went
underground or into exile.

Now with an interim government stitched up from many of those responsible for the atrocities of the civil war, Afghan workers more than ever need an
independent voice.
The Afghan Workers Solidarity Campaign was set up to do this. It is collecting and distributing material aid, both in Afghanistan and to Afghan refugees in
the camps in Pakistan.
It is also providing the space for Afghan left groups to meet and begin to spread ideas of a democratic working class response to the desperate state of
Afghan society.
Trade unionists and community groups here can support these moves by:
* Sponsoring the Afghan Workers Solidarity Campaign ($300 for organisations, $100 for individuals)
* Collecting money and fundraising for AWSC (cheques to: Afghan Workers Solidarity Campaign c/o SSV, 73 Robertson St, Glasgow G2 8QD)
* Supporting a dialogue with the Afghan labour movement. We are looking to organise speaking tours and a trade union delegation to meet Afghan
workers (via Pakistan trade unions)
