Autism expert under fire for doubting MMR link

ananova | 11.04.2002 10:11

An expert on autism has been criticised by campaigners for casting doubts on possible links between the condition and the MMR jab.

In a wide-ranging discussion, Dr Paul Gringas came under fire for challenging the connection between the childhood vaccination and autism.

He told the International Science Festival in Edinburgh that new research had been unable to find a connection.

The consultant in paediatric neuro-disability says about 30% of children with autism would develop normally for a period and then show signs of a condition known as regressive autism.

He said: "It is extremely understandable that we are going to look at whatever was being used by the child at the time and the MMR jab is normally given at 13 months. But autistic regression has been well described for at least 20 years before MMR was ever used."

But protesters who argue there is a relation between the vaccine for measles, mumps and rubella and autism, says the presentation had been "one-sided".

A small number of Action Against Autism supporters stood outside the University of Edinburgh's David Hume Tower Lecture Theatre distributing leaflets in support of their claim.

Bill Welsh, chairman of the campaigning group, says he wants to take every opportunity to refute dismissals of the link.

He said: "Quite frankly, the Government is spending £3.5 million to tell us the MMR is safe. We don't have £3.5 million to respond with our side of the argument and we are protesting the one-sided nature of this event.

"Dr Gringas's dismissal of the MMR theory was based on two very selective studies, one of which is retrospective and no raw data is provided for it. The other one was designed to dismiss the hypothesis that MMR and autism are connected rather than to investigate it."

MMR vaccine IS (thought to be) safe

11.04.2002 13:59

There has only ever been a couple of studies that have shown an ASSOCIATION between autism and the MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccine.

NUMEROUS other studies, including repeats and re-analyses of the original data have FAILED TO VERIFY these results. It is possible that an extremely small percentage of children have a predisposition to autism that can be precipitated by the MMR vaccine; however, this is only a suggestion and has never been demonstrated in real life.

Letters suggesting that MMR vaccine causes autism are extremely unhelpful and can be dangerous as it scares people off having the vaccination for their children. There has been a resurgence of measles in the past few months, and it should be remembered that MEASLES CAN (and does) KILL.

Single vacs

13.04.2002 17:40

For those who are anxious about the recent outbreaks of measles but still feel unsure about the MNR thing, you may get your single vacs for measles in France. It costs around £3.50 at the chemist where you have to order and collect and bring it round to a doctor. The vaccine can be had within hours or the next day.

The doctor (a specialist paediatrician) I went to charged the standard rate, comes to around £25. For this you get asked thoroughly the medical history of the child plus a check-up by the doctor. You may need someone to help you with French but the doctor I went to spoke good English. Plenty there speak English so there should not be a problem.

My child was rewarded with some sweets too.

Ok, it costs money to go to France, but there are things like cheap day trips, and things are cheaper there and the food is much better - they still resist the import of our BSE infested beef.

What Autism-Spectrum Activists Need to Know about HHV-6

People concerned about autism-spectrum diseases can't help but
turn their attention to HHV-6. What they need to know is that
HHV-6 is more of a political matter than a scientific one. It is
a virus tied up politically in a cover-up. Why is HHV-6 not the
center of scientific attention in America? Because it seems to
be the cause of both AIDS and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. And
that's just for starters. The odds are that it is also the cause
of a whole array of immune disorders. Well-intentioned
autism-spectrum activists may think that the practical solution
to this would be to just finance more research into HHV-6. This
is reasonable, but it doesn't take into account the sinister
politics that are keeping a lid on research into HHV-6.

AIDS researchers (the HIV Mafia), and their fawning activists,
hate the mere mention of HHV-6 because all of the emerging
science on HHV-6 shows that it is the cause of immune
destruction and not HIV. This means that HIV is not only a
mistake but also a massive fraud because it has been
deliberately propped up by scientists who have elbowed out all
reasonable competition to the HIV theory of AIDS causation. HIV
is the Big Lie of out time and anyone suffering from any form of
HHV-6 disease (including autism-spectrum) is caught up in the
massive collateral damage of this deceit.

Although HHV-6 is all too clearly responsible for Chronic
Fatigue Syndrome, or more correctly, Chronic Fatigue and Immune
Dysfunction Syndrome, or even more correctly, "Chronic AIDS,"
activists and researchers in this area hate to admit that this
links the CFS epidemic back to AIDS. Some CFS activists don't
even want to admit that their epidemic is a contagious viral
one. So the mere mention of "AIDS," sends them running to the
hills. Like we said, HHV-6 is a political matter.

As if those political problems were not daunting enough, there
is also the issue of animal transmission to deal with. The fact
that many people who have CFS and own pets seem to often have
sick pets that are suffering a similar syndrome suggests that
HHV-6 is being transmitted between people and pets. And as far
as we're concerned, the allegation that HHV-6 is actually a form
of African Swine Fever Virus is still an open question, and one
that autism-spectrum investigators might want to look into.
People with autism-spectrum children may want to have their pets
tested for HHV-6. They might also be well advised to look at the
epidemic of immune deficiency (and apoptosis) that has been a
problem in pigs in this country and around the world for the
last two decades.
