Israel behind Sharon, poll reveals

Daniel Brett | 08.04.2002 16:19

Israelis are in this campaign of terror together. Does this mean all Israelis are terrorists?

Peace Now and the anti-war Israeli left have few supporters in Israel, a BBC poll reveals. Sharon's popularity is rising on the back of the terrorist campaign in Israel's illegally-held occupied territories. No international condemnation or evidence of widespread human rights abuses appears to halt the tide of support the IDF is receiving. The vast majority of Israeli citizens are culpable in these terrorist acts - they elected this monster Sharon and they continue to back his reign of terror. Therefore, can all elements of the Israeli state and Zionism be targets of the pro-Palestinian campaign in the UK? Examples include the hard-line Zionist Union of Jewish Students - should it be banned from university campuses like the Al-Mujahiroun or the British National Party?

GB policy on Israel has been in line with the USA after amking a mess of it in 1948. The NUS will take its lead from the Labour party, and as thats the party of power, well...

So true

It is easy for the NUS to ban some Islamic fanatics or the fascists of the BNP, but when it comes to challenging the racist ideology of Zionism and Israeli militarism they haven't got the balls. The UJS is a Zionist organisation and, in the light of the Israeli attacks on occupied Palestine, should be banned from university campuses. All Zionists and the vast majority of Israelis are in it together and they cannot be regarded as better than other types of racists.

Nazis behind Hitler too

I seem to remember that Hitler was supported by the Germans before WW2 as well. I wonder how the Israelis will feel after WW3?

there are many chilling similarities

between the 1930s and now. While domestically, Britain itself takes on the feel of a Weimar Republic, the overseas policy of TWAT (The War Against Terrorism )is clearly playing DOWN every crime Israel perpetrates, while talking UP any transgresions which other states in the region may have committed...
