Without that involvement the fight doesn't move forward. And the things worsen more and more for our side.
The Lesson of Fortaleza
Helicopters in low flights, riot squad, a lot of military and civil policemen, as always. All this, of couse,
to protect the programmed events for IDB (Interamerican Development Bank), 8-13 March 2002, Fortaleza.
The most beautiful beaches of Brazil are in the northeast of the country. The entertainment capitalist corporations discovered that and they simply solved to expel the coasts populations of their neighborhoods and houses where live.
The misfortune of those populations will make the capitalists' happiness. They want to build coast highways
and luxury hotels to obtain more profits. That is happening in the more beautiful beaches of the northeast of Brazil in general, and in Fortaleza in matter. In some beaches of Fortaleza, since 1998 BID is installing 'community leaders' (stupid puppets) in the head of 30 neighborhood associations founded by the bank. That
tactics intends to neutralize eventual resistance focuses in the hour of to expel the populations, for later to create tourist infrastructures in the place (hotels, highways, etc).
About 80 (eighty) local anticapitalists and come from Rio Grande do Sul, Sao Paulo, Bahia, Alagoas and even of the exterior they made workshops, protests, assemblies, meetings in the university, marches, and even visits house-to-house for to talk with the coasts populations. Separated of that group, another, about of 200 people, got the attention -- in the beaches and in the center of Fortaleza -- for the “radical” posture screaming slogans like “Revolution is the Solution!”, at the same time in that they carried flags of democratic social parties.
Unhappily, the capitalist meetings elapsed without many problems, while the local population, without involving, just observed the protests against the bankers, corporations and government.
Fortaleza "Antibid" delegated us a hard lesson: the inefficacy of struggling without the direct participation and conscious of the neighbors and workers. Without that involvement the fight doesn't move forward. And the things worsen more and more for our side.
WHICH THE BEST WAY TO LOSE RESOURCES AND TIME? TRY TO DESTROY THE CAPITALISM WITHOUT THE PARTICIPATION OF YOUR FAMILY, YOUR NEIGHBORS, YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD, YOUR WORK FRIENDS. IN THOSE PLACES THE CAPITALIST SYSTEM HIDES HIS ACHILLES' HEEL. WITHOUT A STRONG ONE ORGANIZATION IN THESE THREE STRATEGIC POINTS IS IMPOSSIBLE TO DEFEAT OUR ENEMIES.
This was the great lesson of Fortaleza.
