ZeroZero | 05.04.2002 17:17

Sussex University arrives back from Palestine to be greeted by supporters and apparent possible arrest under Terrorism Bill. Supporters will gather to greet them at Terminal 2, Heathrow Airport at 11.30am on Sunday April 7th,

Sussex University delegation arrives back in UK.

Forwarded message:

the situation is that sukant, dan, zaki, osama and keran are still in ramallah, in a house on the outskirts. the others, who had been in a house very close to arafat's compound, have been taken to east jerusalem.

the delegates in ramallah have been going in ambulances helping to transport medical and food supplies. sukant reported that an ambulance in which he was travelling was stopped by israeli defence forces around 20 metres from the medical relief centre and everyone in the ambulance, including sukant, was detained for 4 hours. sukant was searched and his video tapes (which contained footage taken by the delegation) were confiscated. when another driver came to take the ambulance away, IDF shot twice at the ambulance.

in a separate incident, osama and keran were in an ambulance going to meet up with a supplies truck. Six shots were fired at their ambulance, so close that a bit of rock hit by a bullet flew up and hit osama (thankfully he was not seriously wounded).

it is absolutely clear that israel is intent on stripping the palestinian people of their every right - to food, to medical supplies, to movement and in many cases to life. what is the response of the so-called 'international community'? it is to 'understand' the disgraceful actions being perpetrated by the israeli state, led by this veteran assassin ariel sharon. it seems israel has a free reign to commit its genocidal acts, as long as the oil keeps flowing to the US and britain... it is up to ordinary people to stand up and say that we defend the rights of the palestinians!

the sussex delegation are doing an amazing job on behalf of us! they are very proud to be there in palestine with the palestinian people facing occupation and providing practical support, despite the danger of the situation.

THERE WILL BE A WELCOMING COMMITTEE FOR THE DELEGATION WHEN THEY RETURN (HOPEFULLY!) THIS SUNDAY, 11.50am, HEATHROW TERMINAL 2. PLEASE COME TO SUPPORT THE DELEGATION, ESPECIALLY SINCE THEY MAY BE ARRESTED UNDER THE TERRORISM ACT. WE WILL BE AT THE ARRIVALS SECTION WITH A BIG BANNER.

please also tell any press contacts about the welcoming committee, as it will be a good opportunity for interviews, photos etc.

in solidarity.
