British MP's needed in Palestine, now!

Forget the recall of parliament. All British MP's with a conscience should immediately stop what they're doing and get on a flight out there, the Italians are taking the lead.

BERTINOTTI, SHIELD MADE UP OF MPs TO STOP SHARON
(AGI)

Rome, April 2

As of now there must be a 'shield' made of "Italian and European mps" to defend Arafat and the Palestinian cities, then there must be an "intervention force to concretely apply the UN resolution that everyone has verbally said to be in agreement with." Fausto Bertinotti is very struck by what is happening in the Middle East and has announced that the matter will be the focal point of the Refounded Communists' congress which will open with a speech by Nemer Hammad, who represents the Palestinian National Authority in Italy.

Bertinotti has no doubts and said: "This machine of destruction must be stopped" and he adds, "EVeryone can see Israel's overwhelming responsibility. Terrorism is certainly barbaric and goes against the Palestinian campaign for freedom and self-government. But all this does not reduce the perception that there is someone responsible for these barbarities, that is to say the policies of Sharon and his systematic choice to destabilise the Palestinian Authority, refuse any possible pacific resolution and systematically destroy the Palestinian population. Although this does not justify the acts of terrorism, it does give a rational explanation for them." According to Bertinotti there is a risk that, within the left, anti-semitic sentiment should spread, but this should "make the ruling classes in Israel reflect that they may also be partly responsible for this if it does happen. This is a risk that should be fought decisively in order to defend civilisation. Auschwitz is a point of no return that has stuck in the mind of all those people that are looking to a civilised future." (AGI)

Did anyone notice how TM Blair Ltd

03.04.2002 16:02

Did anyone notice how PM (TM) Blair (Ltd IQ) used his speech in parliament to 'plug' New Technology ? (!) yes, the death of Britains supposedly most hallowed centagenarian is no object to staying 'open for business'.
The gist of the argument went something like: "the queen mum lived a century from 1900 to 2002, and what differences in technology she must have witnessed ! Although the changes between 1800 and 1900 were great, those between 1900 and 2000 are even greater..." or words to that effect.

this is not true, Lord Blair; in fact, its something of the reverse. Whilst there have been many techo developments this century (including your beloved e-business) most of the scientific work had been done in the 19th century. INDISPUTABUBBLE ! The first computers (non electronic) had been developed in the 1870s. M Shelly's "Frankenstein", the archtypal sci-fi tale and warning of irresponsible use of technology was published in 1818, and "The Time Machine" by H G wells was published in 1890. the first electro-fax machine was exhibited in Paris, also in 1890. The principles of the three stage-moon rocket were sketched out soon after, and quantum physics, radioactivity and relativity theory were elaborated by 1900. The first viable photographs were being made in the 1850s and as for weapons... balloons, machine guns and rockets were regretfully playing their part long before the trenches of WW1. (rockets were used in the Siege of Byzantuim for hells sake!).
