McDonalds has to be destroyed, but part of that must happen through people within McD refusing their conditions of work and getting together to take over McD property and turn it into something more useful.

Its true that many Anarcho-Syndicalists (as MWR seem to be) blindly ignore environmental/feminist critiques of modern/industrial society and focus on 'better conditions for workers'. But I think that MWR are an inspiring group who should be supported and given constructive criticism.

In the USA McD are the biggest first employer; hundreds of thousands of people (mainly teenagers) see McD as their first experience of the world of work. In a capitalist economy the choice is: work or starve. Not a choice, but a threat, as has been pointed out. yes their are different jobs, but can we really change society by choosiung which job we do? What organisation Does Not abuse animals at some level? Even if McD are destryoyed by a single campaign, abuse will continue until we have a society where resources are controlled from the bottom up. I give MWR credit for understanding this, and if they didn't before look: I've just said it.

Let's all look after each other. I assume that you're a sincere person. Why can't you stand the fact that there are many different ways of destroying McD? Pissed off lazy people have rights too!

The people who McDonald's employs, are the same Third World immigrants who are evicted from their rainforests by the gun and bulldozers. Those who resist are called 'terrorists.' If starving or begging on the street is the alternative to working in fast-food chains, they and maybe soon, we, will have little choice but to contribute to the slaughter, of animals and humans in corporate companies.

I would guess that the person who is slagging off the McDonalds Workers Resistance group is a 19 year old white male, who has just discovered veganism, regularly beats up his girlfriend, plans and plots to become a martyr for the ALF (all talk and never actually carries out an action), hasn't got a clue about working-class politics but justs loves all them fluffy animals. Just for the record, i've been vegan since 1985 and support ALL WORKERS ORGANISING AGAINST THEIR BOSSES..and so should you !

What the original poster may not have thought of is that if McDonalds workers (inc. abbatoir workers, de-foresters etc.) do take control of their workplaces, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't be arsed to do any work, and as their current labour isn't socially useful in any way, I don't think there would be any social pressure on them to work - so I reckon they just won't bother!

It’s Webel here again. I used to be in MWR but now no longer work for McDonalds. However, I continue to help
and support the group in any way I can and still see myself as part of MWR, even if decision making must rest with
those still working there. I was one of a couple in the old group who argued hard to move us in the direction of
anti-capitalism and to try and develop links with the ‘anti-capitalist’ movement. Seems a bit embarassing right now.
These days I’m involved with a range of campaigns, not just MWR.

However, it’s true, MWR did start out because we were pissed off, bored and underpaid. And, in fairness, we
probably didn’t understand very much beyond that. There’s no shame in that, did you come out the womb quoting
comrade Kaczynski?

You will see, if you look closely, that we want an end to all wage labour, and a transformation to an ecological,

The Glasgow branch of MWR has a meeting every week and at the next one I’ll suggest that we put together a few
pages explaining the politics and how they relate to ecological issues. It’s tiresome and depressing to keep having to respond to A//E. A//E, as you know, MWR, see their activities as part of a drive for revolutionary social change. A strategy that needn’t be in conflict with your revolutionary manifesto (indicated elsewhere) of encouraging the whole world to sign on. Solidarity to all benefit claimants, and also to people who choose alternative lifestyles, just a pity some of them are such moralistic, self-satisfied pricks. What is it you’re involved with anyway?, or is not working enough? We got no problem with folk blagging the dole, good luck to anyone who chooses to do that, but you got to recognise that for other people, folk not living in your subculture, unemployment (and boredom!) is a fucking serious problem that people fucking kill themselves over. But the ever escalating suicide rate is probably a good thing ‘cos
it cuts down a population that was destroying the planet....

It is difficult to take a movement seriously that so gladly tolerates people who are so distanced from reality. It is not easy getting people interested in anti-capitalist ideas because to most people it’s a bizarre and irrelevant freak show. How the planet raping billions could have formed such a view is beyond me...
