reclaimthepeat | 22.03.2002 17:40

Full call-out and transport details for a luverly day(s)out of direct action and party frolix to kick out the ecocidal privateers of our planet. Bogs may not seem like the sexiest zone of struggle but it's a vital area full of endangered species and is just as important as any rainforest, coral reef or woodland. So come on up and do what you can for one of the multiple local land struggles taking place here in the UK!!

Monday 25th -Thursday 28th March - Direct Action to save Hatfield Moor
Brief Intro from the campaign:

ALTHOUGH decades of peat extraction have severely degraded Hatfield Moor, if peat extraction is stopped now then some regeneration of the rare lowland bog habitat is possible. In a few years there will simply not be enough peat left to allow a diverse peat bog ecosystem to reestablish itself.

We want to target the Scotts Company in the run up to the Easter bank holiday weekend. This is the busiest time of year for the peat industry, and we hope that strong action at this time will severely affect their operations.

There will be a street party starting at noon on the first day, Monday 25th, and all sorts of other actions are planned over the following days. Also there will be a base camp nearby, on a piece of squatted land, with some equipment for blockade style actions as well as food and places to sleep. But bring a tent if you have one!

The south are doing it up north! We need people, minibuses and drivers in London to go up to Hatfield Moor for a spot of ecological direct action. If you are able to offer transport, driving (over 25s) yourself, or anything else useful please get in touch - 0778 778 2259

monday 25th - thursday 28th sees four days of direct action at Hatfield Moor in Doncaster.

While multinational Scotts have been paid off to get out ov 2 other peat bogs, they have been given two more years to mine Hatfield Moor. We have been taking regular action of different sorts at Hatfield over the last year. Now everything we can do to slow them down is going to have an actual effect in real terms of saving essential diverse habitat. We are targetting them in the run up to Easter, which is the busiest time of year for the peat industry.
At Hatfield Moor there is going to be an ACTION CAMP with places to stay, vegan food available and evening entertainment. There will also be direct action training at the site, people to talk to about what's going on, ideas for autonomous actions and some equipment. Call the number or check the website on Sunday24th to find out where we are.
On the Monday there is going to be a RECLAIM THE PEAT street party. we are meeting at 12.00 at the Green Tree pub, Epworth Rd. People are coming from all over the country and the more the better!
FOR THE STREET PARTY WE NEED:
people
transport
drivers (especially over 25)
banners
costumes
donations
music
and attitude!

PLEASE DISTRIBUTE WIDELY........

this could be your last chance to jump aboard the bandwagon which is the 4 days of action at Hatfield Moor. Peat bogs are the UK equivant of rainforests, and this is the call for resistance to defend what precious little nature we have left.
2 down, some to go.......
2 of the peat moors Scotts were mining have now been saved. Scotts have been given two more years to mine Hatfield Moor, two more years to destroy this essential habitat for thousands of species. Every day we hinder them has an impact; it is one less day they can extract peat, and one more day of regeneration. This could translate as lifetimes to the species that live here.
this monday, the 25th sees a mass action at Hatfield. A right rural knees up of a street party, resplendent with all that a good street party should have. and we promise the weather will be grand. greedy as we are, we want MORE music, MORE troops, MORE banners, MORE ov you. luckily we've been working from many corners ov this small isle to make it easy for you...
