Hey, I'm a pommie in Australia - heard a rumour that fox-hunting has been banned in the UK - can anyone tell me if this is true. Fucking brilliant if it is!!!
Not quite yet - a few weeks back the Scottish parliamnet brought in a vague law kind of prohibiting hunting with dogs in Scotland although there are loopholes. The situation for England is currently under debate. A few days ago MPs were given a vote on the subject - there has been speculation in the media that this was a 'thankyou present' from the cabinet to the largely anti-hunt Labour party backbecnchers for sticking up for a slimy, crap transport minister who nobody likes.
Three options were voted on - 1. Status quo remaining 2. A limited ban being brought in where hunts could still operate with a license 3. An outright ban.
MPs (including Blair) voted for an outright ban. House of Lords voted for a limited ban.
An anoucement of what will happen is expected today. Foxes all over the country are keeping their ears to the ground.
