2 Indymedia people arrested in Gracia/ Barcelona, Friday evening

During yesterdays demonstration in Gracia, Friday evening, in which the police used indiscriminate repression, 2 people connected to Indymedia have been arrested in a violent way.

The arrests happened in the interior of a shop, jewellery Govern in Gran de Gracia street, as these 2 people came into the shop running away from the police repression. The shopkeepers didn’t have, as have people from the demo explained any problems in pointing them out, following the indications from the police (based in false accusations). The imc collaborators were only trying to protect themselves from the police’s disproportionate and exaggerated provocations.

At this point, the police begun to beat violently up the IMC collaborators and other arrested people. The accusations of the detained people is generally to do with: illegal demonstration, and might be released already later today (Saturday 16).

According to words from the police, the aim/strategy among the police is to make procedures efficient due to ‘ …we expect more people [to be arrested] tomorrow..’, another expression which shows unmotivated reasons for the detentions carried out .

People have remained outside the police station in protest (from Friday evening to early Saturday morning). During this time the police has continuously been lying, making harder the work in support of the detainees. We have not been allowed to know the state of health of the detainees (although, direct family members of the detainees have been present requesting information) to thereafter lie saying that the detainees have been transferred to the main police station.

All these lies show how the police intentioned to obstruct the legitimate defence of the detainees. The legal commission of the campaign have contacted hospitals.
