BCN Occupied university surrounded by police

Around 2200CET the Economics building of the University of Barcelona inside the red zone, which is currently being occupied by 100 students, was surrounded by police.

On another campus at the same time, police attempted to force staff ( http://barcelona.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=14291&group=webcast) to hand over information on university students, including names, telephone and mobile phone numbers. Despite being threatened with arrest, the university worker refused, and the police had to leave empty-handed.

The latest piece of news from the University is this communique, issued at 2330CET:

TOMORROW FRIDAY AT 8 AM THERE WILL BE A GATHERING AT THE ENTRANCE OF THE FACULTY WITH THE MEDIA

PRESS RELEASE OF THE INTER-UNIVERSITY ASSEMBLY
For the last 24 hours we have been shutting ourselves inside the faculty of economics of the University of Barcelona in order to keep the university a public space in opposition to the privatisation and militarisation of the stolen space to enable the European summit to take place.

We reclaim this space with the initial intention of staying here until Friday morning, then taking part in the activities planned.
Friday at eight o'clock we will walk out after taking the official picture of "Culos de Estado" (Arses of the State) in the main staircase of the Faculty. Then we will march to the tube station María Cristina in direction to Plaza Universidad.

We remind everyone that the protest actions and mobilisations against Corporate Europe continue, and we invite everyone to participate in the decentralised actions planned for Friday and in the mobilisations taking place on Saturday.

For all this, COME TOMORROW FRIDAY MORNING AT EIGHT TO THE ENTRANCE OF THE FACULTY.

Asamblea Interuniversitaria.
