It is about time to call a spade and spade...

If there is one thing the American War Of Terrorism has proven is the fact that the American people are morally and politically bankrupt.

Much like the citizens of the Roman Empire or the Third Reich, the citizens of the American Empire have supported America's bloody crusades around the world, with very little complaint or dissent.

If popular opinion polls are to believed, upwards of 80% of the American people support the current "War Of Terror" with only half-hearted and ineffectual protest at best

The vast majority of Americans refuse to face the truth of what much of the world already understands: America's War of Terror has nothing to do with fighting Terrorism and everything to do with advancing American geo-strategic conquest of the world. In short, a global American Reich.

The American Empire has murdered untold thousands of people in Afghanistan and elsewhere, all the while self-righteously demonizing Iran, Iraq, and North Korea as "Evil" no less.

This is truly a world gone mad that the most ruthless and exploitative Empire in human history--the USA--points its finger and calls someone else evil.

Indeed, by any moral or political measure, it is America that is the greatest force of Evil on this planet--even as it masquerades under the mask of righteous. Even as it appropriates and hijacks the rhetoric of Democracy, Freedom, and Human Rights as a disgusting political cover for global aggression.

Ultimately, it is the American people who are responsible for their overt and tacit support of their Leaders' bloodthirsty policies. And ultimately, it is history which will condemn all Americans as guilty.

NO wonder that Americans are so despised and hated around the world.

No amount of media spin doctoring from your "Free Press" can disguise this fact.

No amount of Hollywood style lies or feel-good Patriotic propaganda can wash away the blood you have spilled.

No amount of public opinion manipulation by your Ministry of Truth will allow you to disguise the bankruptcy of your "Democracy," your twisted values, and your "civilization" itself.

And no military power on earth will protect you from the terrible fate which you so rightfully deserve...

Which nationality of people set up indymedia?
I've been in the States and the power of the media (and the spectacle in general) is absolutely overwhelming.
It's amazing to me that *anyone* can see through it.

But even with your 80% in favour statistic, that's still 60million people not supporting the war (not to mention the 2 million in jail who probably weren't polled), and not insignificant by any stretch of the imagination.

There is nothing intrisically different between people of *any* nationality, race, sexuality, gender (arguably).

There is a difference between American people and American politics. In an increasingly militaristic society with massive media repression and popular opinion against you, it must be hell to be a dissenting American. We should remember the distinction and support American people in their struggle.

When Britain had an Empire, the majority of the British people were jingoistic, flag-wavers too. Fed the same lies as the American people now. Check your history of what the British ruling class did in Africa, India, the Far East - wholesale genocide in places. There are many, many Americans opposed to this war. Building hateful barriers between us will weaken our cause.

At the Stop the War demo on saturday I got interviewed for an American documentary (well that's what they said it was for anyway...). One of the questions I knew they were going to ask and which they did was what I thought of America. I told them that I had been to America and about what a cool place I thought New York was (yes it's the heart of Western capitalism, but its an amazing place). I then explained that America suffers from the same problem that we do here: crap government. I should perhaps have reffered to a crap governing class (is there any other kind?). But I hope the right sentiment came across.

Also British anti-war activists need to be realistic. We are NOT going to get Bush to stop his murderous war, but we can get Blair to withdraw his support for it, which would do a huge amount of damage the US war drive.

The problem with this message is not that it trashes Americans--who deserve to be trashed--but that it doesn't include the West in general (including you British blowhards).

It is pathetic that Westerners whine about being demonized, when it is your culture, your civilization, and your system which demonizes entire races and nations. ONly you do it under the cover of concern for Freedom and Democracy, as a thinly disguised moral cover.

YOu Westerners will demonize disobedient Third World nations as second nature without even realizing it. Then when you get a justified taste of your own medicine you whine like a child.

The American people are responsible for the American government and its bloodthirsty policies. After all, America is a 'democracy' isn't it? And in a democracy, the governement represents the will of the people does it not?
Or perhaps, you wish to argue that America isn't really a democracy after all.

Either way, you have very little argumnent to stand on...

By the way, contrary to what you might believe, your "democratic" England is still an Empire, albeit as a junior partner of the most destructive Empire in the world.

Comrade, you are missing the point.

These people are of the same, glorious, working class state of being as we are. They have simply been blinded by false conciousness inflicted upon them since they were born. Nationalism, patriotism, and a corruprt government have taken their toll on these comrades mental freedom.

We should fight to liberate them, not hate them!

Though I agree that what has been said about America can be said of a lot of Western countries "You are all guilty" is doing exactly what he accuses the "West" of doing. He's even demonising the posters on Indymedia which are probably some of the only sane people in this world gone loony.

Come on man. Pick your fucking opponents with care. We know the problems of the West. We know the history, we know what atrocities have been done and is still being done in the name of "our civilsation". We are not a bunch of people subscribing to the "white man's burden" or some bloody civilising mission.
