Contempt proceedings against Arundhati Roi for speaking out over the Indian Supreme Court Judgement on Sardor Saravar (Narmada) Dam
Dear Friends,
I was outside the Supreme Court this morning, to express solidarity with
Arundhati Roy, writer-activist, who is facing contempt proceedings for
her article on the Supreme Court judgements on Sardar Sarovar. The
gathering outside the Court was deeply shocked and dismayed, when the
news filtered out that the SC has sentenced her to one day's
imprisonment,Rs.2000 fine and 3 months in jail if she does not pay. It
is a grave attack on conscience and free speech in our country. I
appeal for solidarity in whatever way you and your partners can muster.
