So How Come He's Still In Jail

SO HOW COME HE'S STILL IN JAIL

Supporters of Dessie O'Hare have called for international protests
tomorrow to protest his continued incarceration. Dessie O'Hare is a
recognized Irish National Liberation Army (I.N.L.A) political
prisoner of war. O'Hare was jailed for 40 years in 1987 for the
kidnapping and assault of dentist John O'Grady. Justice O Caoimh, a
High Court judge, recently expressed concern there should be
no "foot-dragging" in processing an application by Dessie O'Hare for
his release from Portlaoise Prison under Good Friday Agreement. Under
strand three of the 'Belfast Agreement' its states that, all
prisoners whose organizations are on ceasefire will benefit from the
early release scheme. As the I.N.L.A is an organization which is
currently on ceasefire, Dessie O'Hare must benefit from this early
release scheme just as others rightfully have. Justice Minister
O'Donoghue had specified in November, 2000, that O'Hare is
a "qualifying prisoner" for early release under the terms of the
Agreement. Dessie O'Hare, however, is still in Portlaoise Prison.

There will be a Protest Picket For Dessie O'Hare (Organized by the
Prisoners Aid Committee and London 32 County Sovereignty Movement)
Saturday, March 2nd 2002 at The Irish Embassy, Grosvenor Place,
London - Nearest Underground Station - Hyde Park. Participants are
asked to assemble outside the Irish Embassy at 12 Noon With Placards
and Banners. Currently, I have no information on any protests
planned in the US (which doesn't mean they aren't happening).
