28 of February 2002, today Italy says farewell to its currency, the Lira, all the big medias tell tales about credit cards and atm machines usage in expansion, tragicly today it is also the day of the Bossi/Fini law on illegal immigration coming into effect and effectively forcing thousands of foreign non-EU workers who had managed to come, and somehow settle into the country, to hyde away even further from police and authorities that will seek to implement a reipatriation policy. In reality, a shameful anticipation of the implementation of that particularly nasty "piece of law"has already been resonating throughout the country. Rumours of forceful removals, house and personal searches, and gratuitous violence towards the immigrants communities have become established facts in all major italian cities. A wave of police operations have been unleashed, all likely places of shelter and refuge by the non-EU immigrants are being systematically searched in a military kind of manner.
On top of all this the Senate has approved measures that limit drastically the share of local authority housing provisions to immigrants to 5% of the total, and has abolished altogether the options for the Regions, to undertake independent projects in the refurbishment of existing properties to house foreign families, thousands of which already live in precarious conditions. Meanwhile resources are being channelled into the construction of more detention centres, nomad communities are threatened with eviction from land, and kurdish refugees denounced illtreatment and even torture, in same cases, by the hands of the "law and order" enforcers.
Some hi-ranking officers of Bossi's party , the Northern League, have announced financial contributions to be assigned to every "true italian" being born, such payments will only be made to parents whom reside, and therefore who are "decent citizens" of european countries, in other words, no rights, no work, no financial support to "blacks", as the Northern League politicians love to define people of a different etnicity than european.
This is how a boundary-less, economically unified, 21st century Europe is progressing into being, a model of totalitarian racist type of society where the promotion of intolerance, disrespect for fellow human beings, and the blind enforcement of fascistic laws are the norm.
