National Asylum Support Service fails to support asylum seekers. Big surprise.

In amongst the usual tabloid hysteria about filthy scrounging asylum seekers, people may have missed last week's news of the CAB's "Process Error" report, highlighting the total failure of NASS to provide even basic subsistence for the people it exists to "support"

The report illustrates the incompetence and stupidity of the organisation by noting that the final sentence of a standard letter sent to thousands of asylum seekers since April 2000 is, "If you have not received this letter you should contact NASS immediately on the number above."

It goes on to catalogue some of the misery NASS has created, such as families left without support for as long as 9 months while their applications are processed.

Particularly interesting is the fact that the report- the most critical of NASS's incompetence to date- has been published by the Citizens' Advice Bureau, rather than by a specialist refugee charity, such as the Refugee Council or Refugee Action, both of which are criticised in the report for their ties to NASS and their tacit acceptance of that organisation's inefficiency and inhumanity.

Certainly worth downloading to get a taste of just how shit life is for the people held up as hate figures by scum like Blair and Blunkett- as well as illustrating how co-opted into that shit the revolting hand-wringing liberals making their money from refugees' misery have become.
